Tips to identify fake information online

*️⃣Check the origin of the source or website

  • URLs that trick you: Watch for URLs that try to look like real news sites (e.g., abcnews.com.co instead of abcnews.com).
  • No "About Us" page: Legitimate websites have an "About Us" section explaining who they are, their mission, and contact information. Fake sites often lack this or have vague, biased missions.
  • Anonymous Author: If no author is listed, or the author has no credentials or other published work, be suspicious.

************************************************************************

Game #1: Can you trust the URL? https://wordwall.net/resource/101571873

  • Get in groups ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป
  • Share your screen
  • Play the game ๐ŸŽฎ
  • Check together

************************************************************************

*️⃣ Check your emotional reaction

  • ALL CAPS and!!!: Professional news outlets avoid sensationalist punctuation.
  • Emotional Language: Does the headline make you feel extremely angry, scared, or overly excited? This is a tactic to get you to click and share without thinking.
  • The "Too Perfect" Story: Does it perfectly confirm everything you already believe? Be extra critical; this is a common confirmation bias trap.

Speaking #2

  1. Why did you chose this topic? (individually, give at least one reason)
  2. What is a problem or challenge that this project will solve?
